I have been working with individual adult clients
(17 years of age +) for over 10 years, and with couples for 5 years. I am
experienced and intuitive, and I believe in working in a collaborative,
thoughtful, and respectful manner on whatever issues seem important to the
client. Some of the areas that I have experience with are: anxiety, effects of
childhood trauma (emotional, sexual, and physical), adult trauma , identity,
same-sex issues, body image/eating problems, depression, and relationship
concerns.
I have an eclectic perspective that continues to
evolve. However, theoretically, I mainly work from a "relational
psychodynamic" approach. In my understanding this means we would explore
together how present situations are linked to past experiences. I place a great
emphasis on guiding your attention to what is occurring in the moment to help
identify some of the patterns that may be recurring in your life. Intellectual
awareness is one part of that understanding; emotions, and how they are stored
in the body, are also very important parts of this awareness. The
"relational" aspect of my approach speaks to my belief that the
therapeutic relationship is central to the work. It is through this connection
that all the work is ultimately done. So, it is important that you and I feel
some kind of match with respect to who you are and what you want from therapy,
and who I am and what I can offer you.
Over the past several years I have also
incorporated aspects of mindfulness meditation, creative expression, mind-body
connection, and spiritual awareness. Synthesizing theory, practice and
experience with these other learnings has greatly enriched my understanding of
the therapeutic process.
Since I am a Registered Psychologist, clients with extended health care
benefits would be eligible for whatever coverage their plan allows.
On a practical note
Unfortunately, I have
an allergic/asthmatic reaction to perfume/colognes and scents of any kind
associated with such things as after-shave, hand lotions and hair products. In
order for me not to be distracted from the work we are doing, I ask that
clients refrain from wearing scented products. I respect that this can be
difficult for some people; if this is a concern for you, you may need to make
other arrangements to accommodate your needs. Thank you.
When the time feels right for you, I
welcome your call to discuss any of your therapy needs.
